Description: Thank you for downloading the PADDDtracker.org Data Release Version 1.1. This dataset includes validated data on Protected Area Downgrading, Downsizing, and Degazettement (PADDD). Protected Area Downgrading, Downsizing, and Degazettement (PADDD) is defined as:Downgrading: A decrease in legal restrictions on the number, magnitude, or extant of human activities within a protected area by a relevant authorityDownsizing: A decrease in the size of a protected area as a result of excision of land or sea area through a legal boundary changeDegazettement: Loss of legal status of a protected area under government administration (national, state, provincial or local)This dataset contains data on PADDD from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, spanning from 1900 to 2016. The dataset documents enacted PADDD events (i.e., events that have been passed into law), but does not include proposed PADDD events (i.e., proposed legal changes under formal consideration by government authorities; available in Brazil only).Differences between Version 1.0 and Version 1.1:Version 1.0 contains data on PADDD from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, spanning from 1900 to 2012. Version 1.1 added point records for PADDD events in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and polygon datafor PADDD events in Peru and Brazil. Version 1.1 also removed point records, if polygons were available instead.Please note that this is not a full list of PADDD events occurring in these regions during this time period, but only those that have been validated following peer review.How to Attribute:Please use the following attribution when citing the data:World Wildlife Fund & Conservation International. 2017.
